Bike Story
As any day, I woke up late, 7:35 in the morning. Left home by 8:35. I started my bike and was on my way to office. I felt something wrong while riding the bike. Scolding my bike mechanic in my mind managed to drive all the way till the heavy traffic below the bridge. Then like any other Bike guy even I started riding over the foot path and rush. There is no other option; I am already late for the office. It was 9:00 by that time. Suddenly one cycle guy told me something and passed on, I thought he is scolding me for the rash driving (It is quite common and no one in Bangalore is really bothered about that). Then again one more person said something to me, "No air
in your back tyre"... I stopped my bike; other bike riding experts started honking behind... I am still on the foot path. :) I turned back to see my back tyre. I couldn’t see it properly, and the sound of horn becomes horrible. I then drove a little more forward. Again turned back to see the back tyre.. Oh My GOD!!! No air in it, it is punctured. I had no idea about what to do. Don’t know any work shop nearby and also have to reach office. Got down and pushed my bike forward. After pushing for around 100 meters, I remembered one tyre shop behind me on the other side. The next struggle was to cross the road with my bike. I tried to cross the road two three times, but no chance. Then I parked it and went to the middle of the road and expressed myself to the other drivers that I have to cross the road with my bike... the vehicles were packed up because of the traffic. Then after trying for 3, 4 times I could push my bike through the traffic and cross the road. Then from there I have to go again 300 meters behind to reach the tyre guy. It was sunny; I was wearing jacket and helmet on my head. It was burning inside. I was praying all the way that he should be open. Finally I reached there and the shop was open. And there was some fight going on. The shop guy was fighting with the previous customer, and for me, I couldn’t fine any other tyre shop nearby. I stood there till they finished fighting. Then I looked at his face with the expression "can you please help me, I am really tired".. He looked at me for three times and then he said "one minute sir, abhi karke deta hoo...”. I shaked my head. Then he started doing the other persons work. I was standing there in the sun. My head was aching and I wanted to wear the sun glass. But since I didn’t wanted people to thing that I am showing off I placed it in my pocket. I started getting hungry, I say one small tea shop nearby, and went there. Had one banana and tea. I sent one SMS to my Team Manager saying that I will be late because of this problem. After some more time tyre guy went to my bike. Remove the back tyre with full josh. Then showed me that there are four holes in the tube... but I could find only two. I was not at all in a mood to argue with him so I said yes there are four holes. Then he said that it is better to change the tyre. I said I will do it later and asked him to fix the holes that time. He said one hole would charge Rs. 20, and so for 4 holes it would be Rs. 80. I was amazed. Since I saw him fighting with the previous customer, I was not brave enough to fight with him. I said Ok. Then he worked on it and then he started fixing the tube inside the tyre. I told him to check the tube once more for holes. But he was very confident that what he has done is perfect. I was again amazed to see his confidence. Then while fixing the tyre to the bike he was not able to do that. That time I realized that I came to the wrong place and it was better to leave the bike on the footpath and go to office. He tried many times and he was not able fix the tyre.. Also, while he was doing that some nuts, bolts and springs started falling down. I started getting scared. Then I thought of calling my workshop guy and tell him to come there. I dialed his number and it was busy. Before I tried again he fixed the tyre. But I was not confident to ride the bike. It is my life and not his. It was 10:30 by that time. I paid him the money. I thought he will give some discount to what he has said earlier... But he did not. To my work shop it was 6 Kms. from there. All the way I drove my bike very slowly to the work shop. I told the workshop guy that I want to service my bike. he said that servicing is full and I will get the bike only tomorrow evening. I felt very sad... I can’t live Saturday without the bike... :( I had no other option other than leaving my bike there. So I said ok. From there to office I came in auto. :( reached office at 11:15...
